Step 1: Access Google Search Console
- Navigate to Google Search Console.
- Log in with a Google account that you use for managing your website or PPC campaigns.
Step 2: Add a Property
- Click the Add Property button in the dashboard.
- Choose between:
- Domain: Covers all URLs across subdomains and protocols.
- URL Prefix: For a specific URL prefix.
- Enter your domain or URL and proceed.
Step 3: Verify Ownership
- For Domain Verification (DNS):
- Select the Domain property type.
- Copy the TXT record provided by GSC.
- Log in to your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare).
- Add a new TXT record:
- Host: @ (or leave blank depending on your provider)
- Value: The TXT record from GSC
- TTL: Default value (e.g., 3600 seconds)
- Save the record.
- Click Verify in GSC (note that DNS changes can take up to 48 hours).
- For URL Prefix Verification:
- Choose the URL Prefix property type.
- Use one of the following methods:
- HTML File Upload: Download and upload the verification file to your site’s root directory.
- HTML Tag: Add a meta tag to the head section of your homepage.
- Google Analytics: Use an existing GA tag for verification.
- Google Tag Manager: Use an existing GTM container.
- Domain Name Provider: Verify via your domain registrar (similar to the DNS method).
