You Like It Darker

You Like It Darker by Stephen King

All 12 stories were great. Some greater than others. But all great.

All in all, a fantastic collection of 12 tales (short stories?) by Stephen King. After just finishing The Dark Tower series, which consists of 7 LOOOOONG (and thick) books, reading short stories felt like cheating.

It was extremely refreshing though to be able to jump from one story to another the same night - with different characters, plots and themes.

Extremely easy to read. Quick. All different. Never boring. Read it.

#1 Two Talented Bastids

How does one become a world-class artist? Hard work? Luck? Supernatural forces? Or a little bit of everything?

#2 The Fifth Step

An extremely short (10 pages) story. Its shortness is compensated by an abrupt and completely shocking - and unexpected - ending.

#3 Willie the Weirdo

How does one stay immortal? Find it out for yourself.

#4 Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream

Some dreams are worse than others. Some are just horrible.

My favorite story of the book. Longer than most (if not the longest), and although it can't compare to Stephen King's novels in length, it developed the characters perfectly, and as a consequence made me live the events, not just read about them.

#5 Finn

Some people just have bad luck: get dropped on their head as newborns, break their bones as children, and get hit by lightning as teenagers. And yet, beating all the odds, their troubles don't end there, making one question the science of statistics.

#6 On Slide Inn Road

Age is just a number. Looks can be deceiving. And, most importantly, never underestimate Grandpas!

#7 Red Screen

I'm not sure how this one saw the light of the day given that Stephen King is married, but it's definitely an interesting take on marriage. Perhaps King nailed it, and that's what all the nagging is about?

#8 The Turbulence Expert

And I always wondered why flying is way safer than driving...

#9 Laurie

Not all dogs are cujos. Set in Florida, so expect an alligator or two.

# 10 Rattlesnakes

Ever wondered how the lives of "Cujo" characters developed after the tragedy in Castle Rock? (No, it didn't end well for all of them in "Cujo", contrary to the movie). Find out for yourself!

#11 The Dreamers

Science, dreams, weird houses with creepy doors. I wonder what can go wrong there?

#12 The Answer Man

Know what to ask. Know how to ask. And, most importantly, think before asking, because you might be better off not knowing.
